News in brief

Rugby Aware at Cranbrook RFC

Rugby Aware Comes to Cranbrook
Player welfare and safety is at centre of everything we believe in at Cranbrook RFC.
The recent School Injury Prevention Study has shown a beneficial impact of a newly-devised exercise programme aimed at reducing injuries within youth rugby.  The results are so encouraging it has led to the RFU putting together an evening training session on how to implement this exercise programme.
The club are pleased to announce that we are hosting one of these sessions at the club on Monday 16th October from 7pm-10pm.
Places are limited but are open to all coaches, players and parents.  Please email David Martin (david.f.martin@gmail.com) to register your interest in attending this event.

In addition to the individual ticket cost there is a required donation to the club of £5 per application request (not per ticket). The tickets will be sold on a “FIRST COME FIRST SERVED BASIS” and you must be a PAID UP Cranbrook Sports Club MEMBER .

Also due to the reduction in the club allocation, there will be a severe restriction on the number of tickets, which will be limited to two allowed per application, unless there is an odd number available.

Message from new Club Chairman Tim Fagg

Dear Members of Cranbrook Sports Club

I thought that it would be prudent to write to you all as some of you may not know that I have taken over as Chairman of the club from Peter. Peter has done an outstanding job over the past six years and it is the mark of the man that it will take several volunteers to take over all his tasks.

The theme that I will pursue is, that we are ONE Club with four sections making up the club, namely the senior men’s and ladies’ teams, the juniors/colts, the minis and the cricketers. As a club we have great potential which can only be realised if we all pull together. Club policies apply to all members equally.

The committee is already putting in place initial strategies to ensure that we achieve this common aim.
To ensure our effectiveness and efficiency, there is a need for more volunteers to assist whether by way of specific jobs or by offering extra pairs of hands. Dave Martin    david.f.martin@gmail.com   07799 600 911   is in charge of volunteers for the club and so please feel free to contact Dave ( or Steen, Tom, Michelle or myself) if you feel that you can help.

Initial dates to look forward to:

9th September – Club lunch. We do hope that as many members from all sections will attend. It is a very social occasion and good value. The 1sts have their opening League game against old Gravesendians that day.

10th September- Cranbrook RFC and School Super Sunday, starting with training/Barbecue and then an open coaching session with Hika Reid (Famous All Black), followed by an adult Trial game for the second team, the Vets and those wishing to return to play.

17th  September - the first Ladies league game of the season at home against Hove.

I will be at the Club on 3rd September for Minis and junior registration Day. Please feel free to talk about any issues of concern regarding the whole Club.

Strength and honour

Tim Fagg

Elliot Mantle

As many of you may already know, Elliot Mantle very sadly passed away last month after a long illness with cancer. Elliot’s service was held yesterday (10th May) at St Michael’s and All Angels Church in Marden, which was very well attended by over two hundred people, which showed just how much Elliot was held in esteem. Elliot was a long time member of the club and a member of the Club’s Committee. Elliot also ran the club shop and managed it in a typically professional manner. On a personal note I will miss Elliot’s presence around the club and his valuable input when I needed to consult him. A word I often heard about Elliot, and one that I think speaks volumes about him, was “Gentleman”. He was a true gentleman and will be greatly missed by me and all at the club. All our sympathies are with Lara, Max, Henry and Alice at this very difficult time.

Ruaridh McConnochie grabs Silver Medal

Cranbrook RFC's Ruaridh McConnochie gained a silver medal in Rio as part of a very successful GB Sevens squad. Despite losing to very worthy winners Fiji in the final, they played in some very tight games beating Japan, New Zealand Argentina and South Africa in their run to the Gold Medal match. Ruaridh was delighted to receive his medal and said "It's been a hell of a journey and minutes on the pitch were never a goal, just to enjoy the moment and I really did!" Cranbrook RFC is very proud of your achievements and we know you have more to come!
